LAFC SECURES SIXTH STRAIGHT WIN WITH 2-0 VICTORY OVER TORONTO

ree

Los Angeles FC continued their late-season surge on Armenian Heritage Night at BMO Stadium, defeating Toronto FC 2–0 to extend their winning streak to six matches. The result lifted LAFC into third place in the Western Conference, surpassing Minnesota United with just three regular season games remaining.

Toronto, already eliminated from playoff contention, entered the night looking to play spoiler. But despite LAFC missing several key players, including Denis Bouanga and Nathan Son, both away on national team duty along with Choinière and Ordaz for FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers, the Black and Gold found a way to take care of business.

The opening minutes were marked by sloppy possession and limited attacking pressure from both sides. LAFC struggled to establish rhythm, appearing hesitant to control the tempo. However, the deadlock was broken in the 13th minute when Jeremy Ebobisse capitalized on a Toronto turnover. With two defenders closing in, Ebobisse maintained composure and slotted home the opening goal, giving LAFC an early 1–0 lead.

Midway through the half, Toronto’s Mark Delgado received a yellow card after a hard foul on Vilsaint. Despite only holding about 44% possession, LAFC looked more dangerous in attack as the first half wore on, creating the better chances and forcing Toronto’s back line into frequent recovery runs.

The second half began with increased energy from both sides. In the 57th minute, Toronto’s Thompson fouled David Martínez inside the box, earning a yellow card and conceding a penalty. Martínez stepped up to take the spot kick but was denied by the Toronto goalkeeper, who guessed correctly to his right.

Martínez had another close chance shortly after, but his shot drifted just wide. Shortly after, he was substituted for Frankie Amaya, a move that would quickly pay dividends.

Within moments of entering the match, Amaya scored with his very first touch in the 69th minute, doubling LAFC’s lead to 2–0 and effectively sealing the win.

As the match progressed, LAFC controlled possession and outshot Toronto two-to-one. Substitutions in the later stages, including the debut of Baluta for Ebobisse, helped maintain energy as Toronto searched in vain for a response. The frustration boiled over in stoppage time when Toronto’s Coello was shown a red card, capping off a disappointing night for the home side.

With a 2–0 victory, LAFC not only extended their winning streak to six but also moved into third place in the Western Conference standings. The team’s form continues to peak at the right time despite missing key contributors.
